Flight of the Falcon

Here are 2 recently finished pieces. The covers for Athena Voltaire: Flight of the Falcon issues #1 and #2.

I wanted the cover to issue one to be reminiscent of a Drew Struzan movie poster. Steve Bryant (the artist) likes to do this sort of montage a lot, and each one creates it's own opportunity to try new things but they each have their own challenges.

With this one, I knew the map was going to be featured, and keeping in mind that I want all 4 covers to stand out on the shelves and from each other, I went with the tan/golden color scheme.

Usually, I'm inclined to have the bright rim-lighting just hit the main figure (in this case Athena's figure) but with this one I thought I would do the opposite. I hit all of the background elements with the light from that sun and left her in her normal colors. Hoping that will make her stand out. Still not sure if the approached worked or not but I'm pleased with the final image.

The only thing I knew going into the cover to #2 was that I wanted it to be predominately green. And there you have it.

Be sure to drop John and I comments, let us know what you think.
